A native of California, Ynez Johnston is most recognized for the “jigsaw” shapes in her painting and printmaking. Johnston studied drafting, painting and printmaking at the University of California. Her extensive travels to Italy, Mexico, India, Nepal, Tibet and Spain had a profound effect on her style of combining modernism and with ancient forms. Her work illustrates her complex and decorative imagery with a somewhat restrained use of color.
Johnston has collaborated in three-dimensional work with her husband, poet and novelist, John Berry.
