Robert David Herbert Bidner was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1930 and graduated from the Cleveland School of Art. Today, Bidner is known for photo real painting-architecture, images of cars, and drawings. “Wisky Island” was the purchase award winner for the 1951 Fall Show at the Canton Art Institute (Canton Museum of Art). The title “Wisky Island” from Cleveland is spelled “Whiskey Island”. However, our records show the artist spelled “Wisky” in this manner. He won this prize when he was just 19 years old, one of six children of a Youngstown Steel Worker. Bidner was a sophomore at The Cleveland School of Art in 1951 earning his tuition by working in the Steel Mills alongside is father. He earned his BFA in 1953.
