Born in Somerfield, Ohio in 1864, Edward Wilbur Dean Hamilton became an important member of the Boston School of Painting. He studied at Ecolé de Beaus Arts in Paris and at the Academy Julian. He was an impressionist landscape, genre, and portrait painter and he was especially noted for garden landscapes. In 1892, he returned to Boston, setting up a studio on Boylston Street and exhibiting at the Boston Art Club and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He died in Kingston in 1943.
