Melinda Ishida-Forster was born on the United States occupied island of Okinawa where her father, an Air Force officer, was based. As a young girl, she moved to the United States and became fascinated with horses. Today, Melinda combines this love of horses with her college interest of making pottery. Melinda creates her work in the slab method and often draws the horses onto the clay slabs before the pot is assembled. A copper wash is applied before the final raku firing in a soft bed of straw and wood chips.
