Hazel Janicki was born in London, England grew up in France and received her training at the Cleveland Institute of Art where she majored in mural painting. She married William Schock, who was an associate professor at the School of Art at Kent State. She taught at the Akron Art Institute and Kent State University. Her favorite medium was egg tempera but she was known to have included acrylic polymer and assemblage as a medium of expression. She and her husband, Bill, were killed in an automobile accident in Florida on New Year’s Day in 1976.
