Dan Lovelace studied art while a student at Ohio State University during the 1970s. He primarily worked in glass, but he also had an interest in ceramics. Lovelace produced art only until the mid 1970's, when he started building houses in southern Ohio. At first glance, this appears to be just a military tank with a man sitting in the center. Upon further notice, it is a functional vessel, complete with a bamboo handle and lid. A student at Ohio State University during the 1970s, Lovelace experienced a society that was ridden with stories and news reports of war. This vessel shows his knowledge and personal experience with war and violence in American history.
