Leo Meissner was born in Detroit, Michigan June 18, 1895. He studied at the Detroit School of Fine Arts and Art Students League. Meissner lived and worked in Monhegan, Maine. His subjects centered on the Maine coast, Monhegan Island, New York City and rural North Carolina. Although Leo Meissner was a fine painter in oil and skilled in pastel, it is his master of woodblock, linoleum block and wood engraving that makes him the notable artist he is today.
