Cleveland artist, Frank Henry (Hector) Tompkins was a landscape and portrait painter. He studied at the Munich Royal Academy in the 1880s and then the Art Student’s League in New York. A few of his painting contemporaries from Cleveland are De Scott Evans, George Grossman, John Kavanaugh, Adam Lehr, Caroline Ransom and Archibald Willard. In 1878 this group of artists contributed to an exhibition in Cleveland at one of the local high schools. Their show consisted of ceramics, jewelry, textiles, decorative arts and paintings and was titled “Home Art”.
