A quiet place beside the sea. Could it be in the morning just after the fisherman and their boats have left? Roy Wilhelm, an Ohio artist, studied with Emile Gruppe, John F. Carlson, Frank Wilcox and Henry Keller. In an interview in the 40s, Wilhelm said he had been summering for over 20 years in the Gloucester area – painting and teaching. He was known for his unselfish and pleasant personality. Wilhelm would search the countryside for hours on end to find an image he would like to capture on paper. He loved to paint the outdoors, capturing the place and time. Step back in time with Pigeon Cove and visualize this prominent area in the fishing village of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
