G.V. Kelley is a nonbinary artist from the San Francisco Bay Area. They received dual baccalaureate degrees in Ceramics and Earth Science from San Francisco State University and a MA of Fine Arts from University of Florida. They make figurative ceramic work that explores ideas about the potential of gender outside of the binary through through the hybridized animal/human as metaphor, with references to fantasy and science fiction. G.V. Kelley uses fantastical creatures to develop their own personal mythologies, metaphorically challenging the boundaries and binaries of identity. They have been an artist in residence at LUX Center for the Arts, Studio 740, and Mudflat Studios. They have had solo exhibitions at Mudflat Studios, LUX Center for the Arts, Charlie Cummings Gallery, and University Gallery at University of Florida, as well as numerous group exhibitions. They’ve received awards from University of Florida, NCECA, Arrowmont School of Art and Crafts, Penland School of Crafts, and San Francisco State University. They have been an instructor since 2009 at various locations, most recently Doane University and Mudflat Studios.
