Paul Maxwell was a modern artist and sculptor who invented and patented his own printmaking medium, an acrylic casting process by which he achieved unusually heavy relief designs on paper and other surfaces. Overtones of a metaphysical nature seem to emanate from Maxwell’s work. This piece culminates into a crescendo of pale yellow and large ‘scales’ in the center. The monochromatic yellow of the work conveys cheerful optimism while the structured evolution of the scale-shapes illustrate movement and change.
